Business With Mobile Applications

In our blog on "Device-Friendly Websites," we explored the ongoing shift from desktop computers to mobile devices and examined statistics on the use of various devices. As the mobile market has continued to expand over the past decade and with information increasingly available at our fingertips, the development of mobile applications has surged.

A mobile application, or mobile app, is software designed to run on devices such as smartphones, tablets, or smartwatches. Initially, apps were created to assist with productivity tasks like email, calendars, and contact management. However, growing public demand has led to a rapid expansion into diverse areas, including games, location-based services, online shopping, order tracking, banking, project management, government services, and various social and commercial uses. Today, there are millions of apps available, typically downloaded from app stores operated by mobile operating system providers, such as the App Store (iOS), Google Play Store, or Microsoft Store.

Nowadays, most people use smartphones instead of basic feature phones. Smartphones come with innovative apps that continuously enhance our daily lives. On average, individuals have at least 30-35 apps installed, aside from the pre-installed ones, though only a few are used frequently. Statistics show that younger generations use more apps than adults. The most commonly used apps fall into categories such as social networking, gaming, communication, and entertainment, which together account for about 70% of the apps on the market. Below, you'll find statistics from Simform that analyze mobile app usage behavior from various perspectives.

The graph above illustrates that while app usage is predominantly centered around entertainment, there remains significant potential for growth in other sectors such as retail and e-commerce, finance, health and wellness, travel, and various private and government organizations. Despite the relatively low number of apps in finance, retail and e-commerce, and health and wellness, these areas are where people frequently spend their time on daily activities beyond social networking, such as managing finances, purchasing goods, and exploring health plans and nutrients. Additionally, apps in these sectors play a crucial role in managing both business and personal activities.

Developing an app for your business or activities enables you to manage operations from anywhere, at any time, using any smartphone, without the need to be physically present at your workplace or home. It provides your customers with a convenient way to connect with you and access your products or services. Nowadays, a mobile application is not only a revenue-generating tool but also a means to simplify your tasks and save valuable time.
